COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ore. (April 14, 2026) — A two-vehicle crash on Highway 30 near Rainier left one person dead and two others seriously injured Sunday evening, according to the Oregon State Police.
Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 7:06 p.m. on April 12 near milepost 48. A preliminary investigation found that a gray Subaru Outback, driven by 69-year-old Ronald Craig Powers of Longview, Washington, was traveling westbound when it crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a red Ford Focus.
The Ford was operated by 62-year-old Randy Charles Bloom of Scappoose, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the Ford, 59-year-old Shana Jean Bloom of Scappoose, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. Powers was also seriously injured and was flown by Life Flight to an area hospital.
Highway 30 was impacted for approximately six hours as crews conducted the on-scene investigation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Oregon State Police were assisted by the Rainier Police Department, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Columbia River Fire and Rescue, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
