Medford, OR. — A rising youth swim program in Southern Oregon is making a splash both locally and statewide.
The Rogue Rapids Swim Team, based at Rogue X in Medford, brought home 12 individual gold medals earlier this month at the Oregon State Championship meet in Beaverton. Several additional swimmers advanced to finals, highlighting the team’s growing competitiveness.
Founded in January 2024, Rogue Rapids has quickly expanded, now serving 130 swimmers. The program emphasizes both performance and accessibility, offering opportunities for young athletes to train, compete, and develop in a supportive environment.
City backing has played a key role in that growth. In September 2025, the Medford City Council allocated $611,750 through its Council Community Initiative Fund to local programs, including $25,000 in scholarship funding for Rogue Rapids.
Those scholarships currently support 18 swimmers, helping cover monthly dues as well as travel and competition costs.
“We don’t want any athletes to not be able to participate,” said co-founder Dr. Laurel Naversen Geraghty during a recent update to the Parks and Recreation Commission. “We’re very grateful for the opportunity to use this beautiful pool and be community partners.”
With strong early results and continued investment, the Rogue Rapids Swim Team is positioning itself as a key player in Oregon’s youth swimming scene—and expanding access to the sport for Medford families.
