Benton County, OR. — A Benton County man has been sentenced to more than five years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple felony sex crimes stemming from a 2023 assault in Corvallis.
On April 29, 2023, Jafet Isaias Renderos-Ruiz and a 22-year-old woman, who were strangers to one another, attended a birthday party hosted by a mutual friend. According to prosecutors, the victim consumed alcohol and went to bed heavily intoxicated.
In the early morning hours, she awoke to find Renderos-Ruiz wrapped around her and sexually groping her. Authorities said she froze in fear as he raped her vaginally and anally.
Later that morning, a friend took the woman to a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) for a medical examination. The assault was documented, and the case was reported to the Corvallis Police Department. Detective Derek Samuels conducted the investigation.
Following a settlement conference that included input from the victim, Renderos-Ruiz pleaded guilty on February 25, 2026, to Attempted Rape in the First Degree, Attempted Sodomy in the First Degree, Attempted Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, and Attempted Strangulation.
At sentencing, Renderos-Ruiz apologized to the victim and accepted responsibility for his actions. Circuit Court Judge Matthew Donohue sentenced him to 65 months in prison, followed by 10 years of post-prison supervision. The supervision term will be reduced by the amount of time he ultimately serves in custody. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender.
Benton County Deputy District Attorney Kyle Haney requested that Renderos-Ruiz be taken into custody immediately. However, the judge allowed him to remain out of custody and ordered him to report to jail on March 16.
Benton County District Attorney Ryan Joslin praised the work of SANE nurses and the victim’s cooperation.
“I appreciate the invaluable work of our SANE nurses, who both support victims of sexual assault and collect crucial evidence that allows for the successful prosecution of these important cases,” Joslin said. “I laud the courage of this young lady who came forward so that justice could be done in her case.”
