Tigard, OR. — A 33-year-old man was arrested early this morning after his truck crashed into a home in southwest Portland, causing significant property damage but no serious injuries.
The crash occurred just before 3 a.m. in the 13000 block of Southwest Larkwood Place. Witnesses told police the driver was speeding and driving recklessly before the incident.
Investigators believe the truck was traveling westbound on Southwest Scholls Ferry Road when it struck a dirt mound along the roadside. The vehicle then reportedly launched approximately 100 feet into the air, clearing a three-foot brick wall before crashing into the side of a nearby house.
When officers arrived, the driver was initially unconscious, and both he and a passenger were trapped inside the truck. Firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue extricated both individuals from the vehicle. They were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The family inside the home was not injured, though authorities said the house sustained significant damage.
The driver, identified as Jacob Hankins, 33, was charged with reckless driving and recklessly endangering.
Police expressed gratitude that no one was seriously hurt and thanked assisting agencies, including Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, Beaverton Police, King City Police and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Police action is not indicative of guilt. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
