Ashland, OR. — The body of a Eugene man reported missing in December has been located near Mill Creek Drive and Highway 66 outside of Ashland, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Medical Examiner detectives have scientifically identified the deceased as Damon Lee Petrie, 60, of Eugene. The Sheriff’s Office extended condolences to Petrie’s family and friends.
Petrie was reported missing on December 18, 2025, prompting extensive search efforts by Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies, detectives, and Search and Rescue personnel. Despite those efforts, his body was discovered by a hiker on Saturday, February 7.
The cause and manner of death have not yet been determined and are pending the results of an autopsy and toxicology report. Authorities said no further information is available at this time.
