Multnomah County, OR. — A man accused of crashing into an occupied Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) patrol SUV following a police pursuit is in custody, authorities said.
The incident began at approximately 2 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2026, when dispatchers with the City of Portland’s Bureau of Emergency Communications alerted law enforcement that a vehicle had fled Portland Police near Northeast Glisan Street and Northeast 148th Avenue.
Two MCSO deputies, traveling together in a partner car, later spotted the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The driver immediately fled. MCSO deputies did not pursue and instead broadcast the vehicle’s last known direction.
Portland Police Bureau officers later located the vehicle and deployed spike strips. Despite the deployment, the driver continued traveling into the area of Northeast Fremont Street and Northeast 102nd Avenue.
As the driver turned onto Northeast 102nd Avenue, the vehicle lost control and struck the front of the deputies’ patrol SUV, which was traveling at approximately 20 miles per hour at the time of the collision. Neither deputy was seriously injured. The driver fled the scene on foot.
Police later located the vehicle near Northeast Rose Parkway and Northeast 127th Avenue. The vehicle came to a stop in the 3400 block of Northeast 126th Avenue, where the driver exited and attempted to flee on foot. When MCSO deputies arrived, Portland Police officers were already in the roadway attempting to take the suspect into custody.
The suspect was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges including failure to perform the duties of a driver, recklessly endangering another person involving two victims, reckless driving, and attempting to elude a police officer.
Authorities emphasized that charges are allegations and that all individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
MCSO noted that Oregon law generally prohibits the release of jail booking photos unless there is a specific law enforcement purpose. The information released is based on a preliminary investigation and may change as the case continues.
