Oregon — The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife released its Weekly Recreation Report on January 22, 2026, with updates for anglers, hunters, crabbers, and wildlife viewers across the state.
Hunters who purchased a 2025 tag must report their hunt by January 31, 2026, even if they did not hunt or harvest an animal. ODFW also reminded hunters that spring bear controlled hunt applications are due by February 10. A new turkey hunting opportunity allows the harvest of up to three hen or beardless turkeys on private land only through February 28, 2026, under separate regulations from the standard fall hunt.
Anglers are advised to check ODOT’s TripCheck for winter road conditions and to review zone-specific rules before heading out, as access can change quickly due to flooding, snow, and ice. Winter steelhead fishing continues statewide, with varying conditions across coastal, Willamette, Central, Eastern, and Southern Oregon waters. Several lakes and reservoirs have been stocked with trout, and ice fishing is open in select locations.
Marine updates show crabbing remains slow in Newport but good in Florence, with strong crab quality reported. ODFW also reminded anglers that a Rogue–South Coast Steelhead Validation is required for winter steelhead fishing in designated areas.
The report additionally highlights ongoing hunter education courses, workshops, and events available year-round to help Oregonians prepare for upcoming seasons.
