Oregon — As cold temperatures persist across the region, Pacific Power is encouraging customers to make small, energy-efficient adjustments at home to stay warm while keeping winter energy bills in check.

“With households using more electricity to stay comfortable during winter months, adopting energy-efficient heating practices benefits everyone,” said Ryan Flynn, president of Pacific Power. “Even small changes support the grid and can lead to significant savings on your monthly bill.”

Pacific Power recommends setting thermostats to 68 degrees Fahrenheit when home and awake, closing window coverings at night to reduce drafts, and sealing air leaks with caulking or weatherstripping around doors and windows. Customers are also advised to clean or replace furnace filters monthly during the heating season to improve airflow and system efficiency.

The utility cautioned customers to use space heaters sparingly and safely, noting that portable heaters consume significant electricity. Running a typical 1,500-watt space heater for eight hours a day over a month can add about $30 to a winter energy bill.

Pacific Power also encourages customers to use high-energy appliances, such as dishwashers, ovens, and laundry machines, during off-peak hours to reduce strain on the grid and help manage costs, especially during periods of extreme weather.

The company offers a variety of energy assistance programs, including income-qualified discounts, weatherization support, and tools for customers facing high bills.
