Woodburn, OR. — Woodburn Mayor Frank Lonegran issued a statement today calling for an immediate end to federal immigration enforcement operations in the city and throughout Oregon, citing fear, economic harm, and threats to public safety.
The statement described Woodburn as a safe city with a richly diverse cultural history, where residents raise families, work, retire, practice their faith, and care deeply for one another. Officials said the continued presence of federal immigration operations has undermined that stability, harming families and children and imposing fear across the community.
According to the statement, small business owners and farmers are also experiencing economic consequences as a result of ongoing enforcement activity.
Officials referenced the recent killing of Renee Good in Minneapolis by an ICE agent, saying they watched the incident “in horror” and expressed solidarity with Minneapolis residents while offering prayers for Good’s family. They called for justice in the case.
The statement condemned what it described as an escalation of violence and aggressive tactics by federal agents against peaceful, hard-working individuals and those exercising their constitutionally protected rights, calling such actions unacceptable and demanding accountability.
“To maintain peace and public safety, and to protect our local economy,” the statement concluded, “we are joining other Oregon officials in demanding that ICE immediately cease all operations in Woodburn and throughout Oregon.”
