Wanted Felon Arrested After 130-MPH Pursuit Through Jefferson County
A Jefferson County pursuit ended with two arrests, firearm seizures, and no injuries after a suspect fled deputies at high speed near Madras.
Jefferson County, OR. — A high-speed pursuit in Jefferson County on Tuesday night led to the arrest of a wanted felon, a second suspect, and the seizure of multiple firearms, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 10:56 p.m. on January 7, a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy observed a black Chrysler 300 with expired registration at a City Pump gas station in Madras. The passenger was identified as Jasmine Graybeal, 35, of Warm Springs, who is known to associate with Edward T. Jones, 32, of Madras, a fugitive with an active nationwide felony warrant issued by the U.S. Marshals Service.
When deputies attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle accelerated to nearly 90 miles per hour in a 25 mph zone and fled southbound on U.S. Highway 26, reaching speeds of approximately 130 mph while entering oncoming traffic lanes and endangering motorists.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed at the intersection of SE Lone Pine Road and SE Highway 26. Both occupants fled on foot. A coordinated response involving air support from the Prineville Police Department located Jones roughly 100 yards from the crash site. He was taken into custody without incident with assistance from the Crook County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, and Madras Police Department.
Investigators recovered two firearms, a loaded 9mm magazine, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia from the vehicle.
Graybeal was arrested for hindering prosecution and violating a firearm surrender order. Jones was lodged at the Jefferson County Jail on his federal warrant and additional charges including eluding police, felon in possession of a firearm, reckless driving, and reckless endangerment.
No deputies or community members were injured during the incident. Sheriff Jason Pollock thanked assisting agencies for their response and support.
