Oregon — The Oregon Public Utility Commission (PUC) has approved a modest electricity rate decrease for PacifiCorp customers, effective January 1, 2026, following its annual review of forecasted power costs.
The reduction reflects PacifiCorp’s updated projection of expenses required to purchase power and meet customer demand in 2026. The rates were adopted through a negotiated agreement involving PUC staff, PacifiCorp, and consumer advocates.
A typical residential customer using 900 kilowatt-hours per month is expected to see an average bill reduction of about $0.96, or 0.7%, lowering the monthly bill to approximately $153.28. Actual bill impacts will vary depending on usage levels and customer classifications, including residential, commercial, and industrial accounts.
According to the PUC, the primary drivers of the decrease include lower projected fuel costs, purchased power expenses, and wholesale sales revenues compared with costs embedded in 2025 rates.
“We appreciate the hard work of PUC staff, stakeholders, and PacifiCorp in this case, which resulted in a slight decrease for customers to start 2026,” said Letha Tawney, chair of the commission. She also noted that House Bill 3179 limits rate increases during the winter heating season, helping protect households when energy needs are highest.
Additional rate adjustments are expected to take effect April 1, 2026. The PUC said it will announce details on those changes in March.
PacifiCorp operates in Oregon under the Pacific Power name and serves more than 620,000 customers statewide.
