Jo Rae Perkins, a Linn County resident who previously served as Secretary of the Oregon Republican Party and a member of the Albany Human Relations Commission, announced in a Facebook live video on January 1 that she is seeking the Republican nomination for Congressional District 5. CD5 candidates currently Bend’s Patti Adair, a Deschutes County Commissioner, and Lebanon’s Jonathan Lockwood, a form legislative staffer. The seat is currently held by Congresswoman Janelle Bynum of Happy Valley, who was elected in 2024. Current US Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer, a Republican, was the first US Representative elected to the seat after redistricting in 2021.
She previously unsuccessfully sought the 2014 US Senate Republican primary, 2016 Congressional District 4 Republican primary, and 2018 CD4 Republican primary. She was the unsuccessful 2020 Republican nominee against Democratic incumbent Senator Ron Wyden, and the unsuccessful 2022 Republican nominee against Democratic incumbent Senator Jeff Merkley.
