Curry County, OR. — The Curry County Board of Commissioners will host a Town Hall Meeting on Friday, January 16, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at Harbor Grange Hall, located at 97985 Shopping Center Avenue in Brookings.
The meeting is being held in response to ongoing community concerns surrounding illegal camping, hazardous waste left behind by transients, and broader public safety impacts in the Harbor area. County officials say the discussion is intended to balance enforcement, services, and respect for the community while prioritizing public safety.
Representatives from the Curry County Sheriff’s Office, the Curry County District Attorney’s Office, the Oregon Department of Transportation, and the Oregon State Police have been invited to attend and participate.
Commissioners are seeking direct input from residents on the impacts they are experiencing, potential services or partnerships the County could pursue, and which public safety concerns should be prioritized. Additional discussion topics include specific areas of concern—such as south of the bridge, the Shopping Center area, and the south bank of the Chetco River—as well as how the County can improve communication with Harbor residents regarding enforcement, services, and available resources.
County officials emphasized that the town hall is an opportunity for residents to directly engage with decision-makers and help shape future approaches to addressing these issues.
