Victim Recovered in Tragic Drowning at Henry Hagg Lake
On August 3, 2024, a drowning at Henry Hagg Lake resulted in the loss of Vielman Mijail De La Cruz-Lopez, with multiple agencies involved in the search and recovery effort.

Washington County, OR. – Official Release: On August 3, 2024, at approximately 7:10 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol deputies were alerted by citizens to a drowning at Henry Hagg Lake. It was reported that an adult male jumped off the fishing pier into the water. He surfaced, but then struggled to swim. He submerged again and did not re-surface.
Marine Patrol and Search and Rescue deputies immediately began a search effort with help from multiple agencies. The water temperature at the time of search and recovery operations was 80 degrees Fahrenheit. At approximately 9:30 p.m., the body of 32-year-old Vielman Mijail De La Cruz-Lopez was located. Mr. De La Cruz-Lopez was a resident of Cornelius.
