Representative Kevin Mannix Applauds Federal Support of the Interstate 5 Bridge Replacement Project

December 19, 2023 – Rep. Kevin Mannix: Representative Mannix Applauds Federal Support of the Interstate 5 Bridge Replacement Project
Today, Representative Kevin Mannix (R-Salem) expressed his appreciation for the recent $600 million federal commitment to the Interstate 5 Bridge Replacement Project. Representative Mannix serves on the Joint Committee on Transportation, the Joint Committee on Ways and Means, and the Joint Interim Committee On The Interstate 5 Bridge. “I am pleased the federal government has made their commitment known to this project. It is my hope that this project will provide modern, efficient transportation for both freight and people. As State Legislators, we will have to continue to reiterate the importance of this project to our federal partners, as most of the funding will need to come from the federal government,” said Representative Mannix. “The Interstate 5 Bridge is a critical pathway for interstate, regional, and international trade. A project of this magnitude requires all hands-on deck.” The new Interstate 5 Bridge will run to the west of the existing bridge and will include a special lane for bus, mass transit vehicles, and light rail. The total estimated budget of the project is $6 billion. Both Oregon and Washington have allocated $1 billion in state funding to the project.
