Portland Man Sentenced to 35 Years in Prison for Sexually Abusing Three Sisters
PORTLAND, Ore. — A 35-year-old man was sentenced to 35 years in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing three sisters throughout their childhood, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office announced October 15.
Michael Paul Ayles was sentenced on October 14, 2026, by Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Celia Howes.
A Multnomah County jury found Ayles guilty in late July of one count of first-degree sodomy and eight counts of first-degree sexual abuse. He later pleaded no contest to an additional count of first-degree sodomy.
The sodomy convictions carried a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison under Oregon’s Jessica’s Law, which imposes enhanced penalties for certain sexual offenses involving children younger than 12.
According to prosecutors, the case came to light in 2022, when three sisters told their mother that Ayles had sexually abused them while she was away and he was babysitting them.
Two of the girls said the abuse began when they were between 4 and 5 years old. The third said it began when she was 5 or 6.
One of the children recalled a specific incident that occurred when she was 11. Prosecutors said Ayles repeatedly isolated the girls and subjected them to sexual advances and abuse throughout their childhoods.
Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Mihnea Moga prosecuted the case.
Following sentencing, Moga thanked the victims for coming forward and helping hold Ayles accountable.
“When someone takes advantage of the vulnerable, we are committed to seeking justice, ensuring the victims’ protection, and righting what has been wronged,” Moga said.
The District Attorney’s Office also credited Detective Todd Christensen and the Portland Police Bureau’s Child Abuse Team for their investigative work. The office recognized its victim advocates for providing support and care to crime victims throughout the legal process.
The case was filed under Multnomah County Circuit Court case number 23CR55517.
