Umatilla Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash on I-84 in Gilliam County

GILLIAM COUNTY, Ore. — A 24-year-old Umatilla man was killed early Sunday morning after his vehicle crashed into a guardrail on Interstate 84 in Gilliam County.

Oregon State Police responded to the single-vehicle crash at about 12:23 a.m. Sunday, September 27, near milepost 140, east of Arlington.

According to the preliminary investigation, Adhishwar Ramanathan was driving a white Toyota Avalon eastbound on I-84 when the vehicle left its lane for an unknown reason and struck the end of a guardrail. The Toyota came to rest facing westbound in the eastbound lane.

Ramanathan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The highway was not impacted during the on-scene investigation.

The Gilliam County Sheriff’s Office, North Gilliam County Rural Fire Protection District and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted Oregon State Police with the response.
