Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Three Vehicles on Highway 101 in Lincoln County

A Portland man was killed Saturday night after being struck by three vehicles on Highway 101 near Gleneden Beach, according to Oregon State Police.

The crash was reported at about 8:21 p.m. Sept. 19 near milepost 122 in Lincoln County. OSP also received reports of a person walking in the roadway.

Investigators said a southbound gray Chevrolet Colorado, driven by 61-year-old Renee Ronilyn Wohlwend of Lincoln City, struck a pedestrian who was in or near the lane of travel. The pedestrian was identified as 41-year-old Nicholas Ryan Perkins of Portland.

After the initial collision, Perkins was struck by two additional vehicles. A southbound white Mercedes Sprinter van driven by 34-year-old Gregory Lear Miller of Flagstaff, Arizona, and a northbound blue Toyota Sequoia driven by 50-year-old Michael Aaron Hadden of Depoe Bay were also involved.

Perkins was pronounced dead at the scene.

None of the three drivers reported injuries.

Miller was stopped and detained south of the crash scene. He was taken into custody on suspicion of failing to perform the duties of a driver.

Highway 101 was affected for approximately four hours while authorities investigated the crash.

OSP was assisted by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln City Police Department, Depoe Bay Fire District, Pacific West Ambulance and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
