Medford Studies Two Baseball Stadium Sites, With Council Evaluation for Next Steps Expected After Fall Report

Medford, OR. — Medford’s study of a potential professional baseball stadium has reached the pre-application stage for two locations, but the City Council has not approved construction at either site.

The city said the project team is gathering information about land-use rules, infrastructure, development standards and other conditions at Hawthorne Park and Harry & David Field. A pre-application review lets the team ask city staff questions before submitting a formal development application. It does not grant project approval or authorize construction.

On June 3, the City Council approved a contract of up to $500,000 with KNO Construction, working with DLR Group, for design work, cost estimates and due diligence. The approved study calls for a preliminary conceptual design and construction cost estimate for a stadium at Hawthorne Park. At Harry & David Field, the team is assessing the cost and feasibility of using or modifying the existing site to meet professional baseball requirements.

The pre-application findings will feed into the consultants’ analysis and cost estimates. The city expects the study to be completed this fall, when staff will present its findings and a recommendation to the council.

Council members will then decide whether to take any further steps. The city emphasized that the current reviews are part of the study approved in June and do not commit Medford to building a stadium.
