CLATSOP COUNTY, Ore. — One person was killed and three others were injured Saturday night in a four-vehicle crash on Highway 30 near milepost 85 in Clatsop County, according to Oregon State Police.
The crash was reported at approximately 8:56 p.m. on September 12, 2026.
According to the preliminary investigation, a black Ford Ranger driven by 65-year-old Markham Marshall Stangland of Warrenton was traveling westbound when it crossed into the eastbound lane for unknown reasons. The Ranger sideswiped a black Ram 1500 driven by 25-year-old Jaden Vinay Govindan of Aloha.
The Ranger continued traveling in the eastbound lane and struck a Ford Transit van driven by 21-year-old Haiden Cunningham of Milwaukie. An eastbound green Ford F-100 pickup driven by 29-year-old Gregory Louis Wavra of Longview, Washington, was unable to stop and struck both the Ford Ranger and Ford Transit.
Stangland was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said he is not believed to have been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Govindan sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital. Cunningham suffered serious injuries and was also transported to a hospital. Wavra sustained minor injuries and was transported for medical treatment.
The Ford Transit was carrying 11 Oregon National Guard members who were returning to the Clackamas area after a training event at Camp Rilea near Warrenton. There were a total of 17 occupants across the four vehicles.
Because of the number of people involved, the crash triggered a mass-casualty response involving neighboring fire departments, police agencies and area hospitals.
Highway 30 was impacted for approximately four hours while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene.
OSP was assisted by the Clatskanie Fire Department, Knappa Fire Department, Astoria Fire Department, Medix Ambulance Service, Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office, Astoria Police Department, Oregon Department of Transportation and Washington State Patrol.
