Medford, OR. — Young athletes can participate in an eight-week volleyball training program this fall through a new partnership between the Medford Parks and Recreation Department and The Volleyball Institute of Oregon.
The Sunday program will run from Sept. 13 through Nov. 1 at the Santo Community Center.
Sessions for children ages 7-11 will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Athletes ages 12-16 will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The program costs $180, and registration closes at noon Sept. 11.
Organizers said the training will focus on helping athletes develop volleyball skills, improve athletic movement and build confidence. The program is intended to establish skills participants can use as they continue playing the sport.
The Volleyball Institute of Oregon is led by former professional volleyball player and longtime coach Kimika Rozier. She played at Washington State University and the University of South Florida before competing professionally for 10 years in 12 countries.
Rozier has also worked with the USA Volleyball National Team Development Program as an under-19 coach.
Founded in 2018, The Volleyball Institute operates independently of volleyball clubs and describes its training model as athlete-centered. The organization focuses on long-term skill development rather than affiliation with a particular competitive club.
Registration is available through the City of Medford’s online recreation portal.
