BEND, Ore. — A vacant mobile home was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning in southwest Bend, according to Bend Fire & Rescue.
Fire crews were dispatched at approximately 12:43 a.m. Sept. 2 to a reported structure fire on South Queens Drive. When firefighters arrived, they found the mobile home heavily involved in flames, with fire coming through the roof.
Crews quickly applied water to the structure and worked to contain several spot fires that had spread into nearby brush.
The mobile home was vacant, and there were no known occupants or reported injuries. The fire caused a total loss, with damage to the structure and its contents estimated at approximately $25,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Bend Fire & Rescue reminded residents that, despite recent rain and cooler temperatures, the region remains under extreme fire danger.
Outdoor debris burning is closed for the season in Deschutes Rural Fire Protection District No. 2 and is not expected to reopen until later this fall. Debris burning is prohibited year-round within Bend city limits under city ordinance.
Recreational campfires, cooking fires and warming fires are generally allowed year-round. Fire officials reminded residents never to leave a fire unattended and to keep a water source or fire extinguisher nearby in case flames spread.
