EUGENE, Ore. — A Mexican national who had previously been removed from the United States three times has been sentenced to federal prison for illegally re-entering the country.
Javier Osorio-Altamira, 50, was sentenced to 12 months and one day in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford for the District of Oregon announced.
According to court documents, Osorio-Altamira had been removed from the United States on three prior occasions. During his first illegal stay in the country, he attempted to force his way into an apartment and threatened to kill a woman while holding a 12-inch knife. He was convicted of unlawful use of a weapon and subsequently removed from the United States.
During a later illegal stay, Osorio-Altamira was charged in Marion County with allegedly sexually touching a child on multiple occasions. Following his arrest, he was released into the community by state authorities.
On April 16, 2016, immigration authorities arrested Osorio-Altamira for immigration violations. He made his initial appearance in federal court and was detained.
Federal records show Osorio-Altamira was deported from the United States on June 10, 2015, May 20, 2016, and June 4, 2016. According to prosecutors, he never applied for or received permission from the U.S. attorney general or the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to re-enter the country.
A federal grand jury in Eugene returned an indictment against Osorio-Altamira on April 16, 2026, charging him with illegal re-entry after removal. He pleaded guilty to the charge on June 3, 2026.
The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
