UNION COUNTY, Ore. — A 56-year-old Arizona man was killed and three other people were injured Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 84 in Union County, according to Oregon State Police.
The crash was reported at approximately 10:32 a.m. Aug. 23 near milepost 247.
According to the preliminary investigation, a white 2016 Ram 3500 pickup towing a utility trailer was traveling westbound on Interstate 84 when it rear-ended a slow-moving white 2017 Volvo semi-truck towing a flatbed trailer loaded with spools of cable.
The Ram was operated by Scott Ray McClinton, 56, of Prescott Valley, Arizona. McClinton was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Volvo was operated by Abdul Sami Saleh, 42, of Rosenberg, Texas. Saleh was not injured in the crash.
Three occupants of the Ram sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The highway was impacted for approximately five hours while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene.
Oregon State Police was assisted by La Grande Fire and Rescue, La Grande Rural Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The crash remains under investigation.
