Two Arrested After Crowbar Assault in Grants Pass
Grants Pass police arrested two residents following an early-morning fight that left two people injured after they were allegedly struck with a crowbar.
Officers responded shortly after 3:30 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2026, to the 800 block of NE A Street after receiving a report of a physical fight involving several people.
When officers arrived, they learned two victims had been injured after being struck with a crowbar and were requesting medical assistance. Grants Pass Police Department detectives responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
During the initial investigation, officers developed probable cause to arrest 30-year-old Samantha Fillmore and 45-year-old Jeremy Whelchel, both of Grants Pass.
Fillmore was taken into custody without incident. Officers determined Whelchel was believed to be hiding inside a nearby apartment and established containment around the residence while they obtained a search warrant.
Several hours later, officers served and executed the warrant and located Whelchel inside the apartment. He was taken into custody without incident.
Fillmore and Whelchel were lodged at the Josephine County Jail on charges of second-degree assault, third-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
The case remains under investigation.
