SISTERS, Ore. — The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office announced Saturday afternoon that evacuation levels remain unchanged as firefighters continue to gain ground on the Akawa Butte Fire.
According to the sheriff’s office, fire crews are making steady progress by locating and extinguishing small spot fires outside the established containment lines. Officials said fewer spot fires are being discovered each day as suppression efforts continue to strengthen around the incident.
Utility crews and firefighters are continuing to work in areas where power has been shut off to ensure operations can be carried out safely. Fire personnel are also conducting work along closed roadways, including removing hazardous trees and constructing contingency fire breaks to support ongoing fire suppression and repair efforts.
Authorities are reminding residents to remain alert to changing fire conditions and to continue following all road closures and evacuation notices. Officials emphasized that the restrictions are necessary to protect public safety and provide firefighters with safe access to continue their work.
