DALLAS, Ore. — A 52-year-old Dallas man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2024 murder of his brother.
Polk County Circuit Judge Rafael A. Caso sentenced Alonzo Rowell to life in prison following his conviction in the killing of 54-year-old Tony Miller. Rowell will be required to serve at least 25 years in prison before he is eligible for consideration for parole.
A Polk County jury found Rowell guilty on June 26, 2026, of Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Reckless Endangering Another Person.
Judge Caso ordered Rowell to serve concurrent sentences on the additional charges.
According to prosecutors, Rowell fatally shot his brother, Tony Miller, at Miller’s residence in Dallas on November 9, 2024.
After the shooting, Rowell drove to his former workplace at the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem. Once there, he became involved in a brief standoff with Salem police and other law enforcement agencies before officers took him into custody.
Rowell will remain in prison under the life sentence, with parole consideration possible after he completes the mandatory 25-year minimum term.
