MALHEUR COUNTY, Ore. — A California motorcyclist was killed and his passenger seriously injured Saturday morning in a crash involving a semi-truck on Highway 20 in Malheur County, according to the Oregon State Police.
Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 9:44 a.m. on July 18 near milepost 255.
According to the preliminary investigation, a white Peterbilt semi-truck towing a trailer, driven by Victor Pena-Olvera, 24, of Marsing, Idaho, was traveling westbound on Highway 20 and attempting to make a left turn onto Siphon Drive. At the same time, a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle, operated by John Platt, 67, of Winters, California, attempted to pass the semi-truck.
Investigators said the motorcycle collided with the driver’s side of the Peterbilt.
John Platt was pronounced dead at the scene.
His passenger, Yolanda Platt, 70, was transported to an area hospital with reported serious injuries.
Pena-Olvera was not injured in the crash.
Highway 20 was impacted for approximately two hours while troopers investigated the scene.
The Oregon State Police were assisted by Treasure Valley Paramedics and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The crash remains under investigation.
