LANE COUNTY, Ore. — A Lane County Jail inmate is facing additional criminal charges after deputies say he assaulted another adult-in-custody inside the jail Thursday evening, leaving the victim with significant injuries.
According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. on July 16 while inmates were participating in dayroom activities. Authorities said Jesse Owen Spencer allegedly attacked another adult-in-custody without apparent provocation.
Jail staff witnessed the assault, and deputies quickly intervened to stop the attack. Despite the rapid response, the victim sustained significant injuries and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Following the incident, Spencer was taken into custody on new charges and moved to a more restrictive housing unit within the Lane County Jail.
He has been charged with:
- Assault in the Second Degree
- Strangulation
- Unlawful Use of a Weapon
- Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree
The incident remains under investigation.
