DESCHUTES COUNTY, Ore. — Oregon State Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying additional witnesses to a three-vehicle crash on Highway 20 that left two people seriously injured earlier this month.
The crash occurred at approximately 12:47 p.m. on Friday, July 10, near milepost 41 on Highway 20 East.
According to the preliminary investigation, a westbound 2013 black Chevrolet Silverado pickup towing a single-axle utility trailer attempted to pass a black Dodge 4500 that was also towing a trailer. As the Silverado moved into the opposing lane, an eastbound Hyundai Elantra attempted to avoid a collision.
Investigators said the Hyundai lost control after entering the gravel shoulder on the eastbound side of the highway, crossed into the westbound lane, and collided with the trailer being towed by the Dodge 4500.
The driver and passenger of the Hyundai sustained serious injuries and were transported by air ambulance to a local hospital.
The crash closed or impacted traffic on Highway 20 for approximately five hours while emergency crews responded and investigators examined the scene.
The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was cited for careless driving and unsafe passing.
Oregon State Police are seeking additional witnesses who may have observed the black 2013 Chevrolet Silverado traveling westbound on Highway 20 near milepost 41 immediately before or at the time of the crash.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the OSP Northern Command Center dispatch at 800-442-0776 or dial *OSP (*677) from a mobile phone. Callers should reference case number SP26-255130.
