KLAMATH COUNTY, Ore. — Firefighters from Klamath County Fire District 1 and the Kingsley Field Fire Department quickly brought a commercial equipment fire under control Saturday evening after flames engulfed asphalt production machinery and storage tanks near Highway 97.
The fire was reported at approximately 8:23 p.m. on July 11, 2026, at a commercial property adjacent to the highway.
The first arriving engine company found heavy fire involving machinery and above-ground tanks used in asphalt production. Thick black smoke billowed from the scene and was visible from a considerable distance.
Recognizing the intensity of the fire, firefighters immediately transitioned to a defensive strategy, deploying a deck gun to attack the flames while requesting additional water tenders from the Keno Rural Fire Protection District and Klamath County Fire District 4.
Utility crews and responders worked to isolate power and natural gas feeding the affected equipment, allowing firefighters to safely continue suppression efforts. Once utilities were secured, crews used hand lines to extinguish the remaining hotspots.
No civilians or firefighters were injured during the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
