GRANTS PASS, Ore. — Grants Pass Police are investigating after a female juvenile was injured when she was struck by high-velocity water beads fired from a passing vehicle on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Grants Pass Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 1:02 p.m. on July 12 following a report that a female juvenile had been hit by water beads while walking along Northeast Jackson Street.
Police said the victim sustained numerous injuries to her back that were consistent with being struck by water beads fired from a gel-bead blaster. The devices, commonly marketed as recreational toy blasters, are advertised as firing gel beads at high velocity that burst on impact.
Investigators determined that several male juveniles fired the gel beads from a vehicle as they drove past the victim before fleeing the area.
The suspects were later identified, according to police.
The investigation remains active and has been designated a high priority by the Grants Pass Police Department. Because all individuals involved are juveniles, authorities said no additional information will be released at this time.
Police are asking anyone with information about this incident or any similar incidents involving gel-bead blasters to contact the Grants Pass Police Department at 541-450-6260.
