SALEM, Ore. — Salem police detectives, working alongside federal agents, seized dozens of firearms, illegal drugs and equipment used to manufacture firearms and anabolic steroids during the execution of multiple search warrants tied to an ongoing investigation.
The investigation followed the July 6 arrest of 47-year-old Michael J. Brasi of Salem in connection with a domestic stalking case involving multiple alleged violations of a no-contact order, according to the Salem Police Department.
Brasi was arrested by patrol officers and lodged at the Marion County Jail on charges including domestic felony stalking, unlawful use of a GPS device and first-degree burglary.
Information gathered during the arrest prompted patrol officers to contact detectives with the Salem Police Strategic Investigations Unit. Detectives, assisted by agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), obtained and executed search warrants at multiple locations associated with Brasi on July 7.
During the searches, investigators recovered 54 firearms, eight homemade suppressors, incomplete firearm frames, firearm parts and thousands of rounds of ammunition. Authorities said several of the firearms had been reported stolen from nearby jurisdictions.
Detectives also discovered equipment allegedly used to manufacture so-called “ghost guns,” including 3D printers, drill presses and firearm build kits designed to produce firearms that are difficult to trace.
In addition to the weapons, investigators seized approximately 129 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 88.7 grams of fentanyl, 20.1 grams of cocaine and more than 150 vials of anabolic steroids.
Authorities also found evidence indicating the manufacture of anabolic steroids, including unused vials, custom labels and mixing agents.
Brasi remains in custody at the Marion County Jail. Police said additional firearms-related charges are pending as the investigation continues.
The Salem Police Department credited its partnership with the ATF for assisting in the investigation. Anyone seeking additional information is asked to contact the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.
