GRESHAM, Ore. — On the second anniversary of a hit-and-run crash that left a Gresham woman with lasting injuries, the Gresham Police Department is asking the public for help identifying the driver responsible.
According to investigators, two years ago Tatanisha McGowan was preparing to get into her vehicle, which was parked along Northeast 162nd Avenue near East Burnside Street, when she was struck by a passing vehicle. The driver fled the scene without stopping to provide aid or report the collision.
McGowan suffered significant injuries that continue to affect her today.
Investigators said a nearby surveillance camera captured images of the suspect vehicle as it left the area. Witnesses described the vehicle as a silver sedan with a loud exhaust, and evidence collected at the scene indicated the car likely sustained damage to its passenger side during the collision.
As part of the renewed investigation, Gresham Police have released images of the suspect vehicle in hopes that someone may recognize it or remember information that could help identify the driver.
“We believe there may be additional witnesses who were not interviewed at the time of the crash,” said Detective Adam Wright. “If you have information about the crash, no matter how minor, please come forward.”
Despite the injuries she sustained, McGowan said she has forgiven the person who struck her. However, she believes the driver should still be held accountable for leaving the scene.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Gresham Police Department tip line at 503-618-2719, toll-free at 1-888-989-3505, or by email at GPD@GreshamOregon.gov. Investigators say even seemingly minor details could prove valuable in advancing the case.
