Over the Juneteenth holiday weekend, Lane County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested seven drivers on suspicion of driving under the influence, underscoring concerns about impaired driving on local roads and the agency’s limited resources for dedicated traffic enforcement.
According to the sheriff’s office, the arrests occurred between Friday, June 19, and Sunday, June 21, following traffic stops and responses to several crashes throughout Lane County.
The first arrest came shortly after 3:20 a.m. Friday when deputies stopped a vehicle near River Road and Beltline Highway. Authorities said 19-year-old Daniel Isaiah Santiago of Springfield showed signs of impairment and was arrested on suspicion of DUII. His vehicle was impounded, and he was later cited and released.
Later Friday afternoon, deputies responded to a rollover crash in the 32100 block of Latham Road. Investigators said 25-year-old Gianna Fallon Terracciano of Eugene exhibited signs of intoxication and was arrested for DUII. Her vehicle was towed, and she was cited and released.
At approximately 2:15 a.m. Saturday, deputies responded to a report of an intoxicated driver in the 2300 block of Irving Road. Deputies located the vehicle and arrested 29-year-old Dennis Adrian Martinez-Rivera of Eugene on suspicion of DUII. His vehicle was towed, and he was cited and released.
Saturday evening, deputies investigated a crash in the 39800 block of Church Road after the occupants reportedly fled the scene. Authorities later located the individuals nearby and identified 29-year-old Ceaira Sage Wise-Woodruff of Junction City as the driver. Deputies said she displayed signs of impairment and was arrested for DUII and reckless driving. Her vehicle was towed, and she was cited and released.
At about 10:40 p.m. Saturday, deputies responded to a crash in the 11700 block of Walnut Avenue. The driver, 34-year-old Sean Lee Bowman of Eugene, had been transported to a local hospital, where deputies contacted him. Investigators said Bowman showed signs of impairment and arrested him on suspicion of DUII and misdemeanor driving while suspended. His vehicle was towed, and he was cited and released.
Roughly an hour later, deputies responded to another crash on Hill Road near McKenzie View Drive. Authorities said 35-year-old Eric Lee Johnson of Eugene showed signs of impairment and was arrested on charges of DUII, reckless driving and two counts of second-degree criminal mischief. Johnson’s vehicle was towed, and he was lodged at the Lane County Jail.
The final arrest occurred just after midnight Sunday following a crash in the 62200 block of Jasper Lowell Road. Deputies identified the driver as 19-year-old Jay Edwin Shannon II of Veneta. He was arrested on suspicion of DUII, and his vehicle was towed. Shannon was cited and released.
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office noted that it does not currently have funding for a dedicated traffic unit or deputies assigned exclusively to DUI enforcement. Officials said additional funding for the Police Services Division could support full-time traffic safety deputies in the future.
The agency urged motorists to plan ahead for a safe ride home, avoid driving after consuming alcohol or drugs, prevent impaired friends or family members from getting behind the wheel, ensure party guests have sober transportation and always wear seat belts.
“Drive safe in 2026,” the sheriff’s office said. “Please get a ride if you have been drinking or using drugs.”
