Linn County Sheriff Michelle Duncan said deputies arrested a Sweet Home man Wednesday night after a foot pursuit that ended with a sheriff’s K9 locating the suspect hiding in a creek.
According to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received information from an anonymous source shortly before 9 p.m. on June 17 regarding the whereabouts of 57-year-old David Fox near the 25000 block of Brush Creek Road, south of Sweet Home. Deputies set up surveillance in the area and confirmed that Fox had outstanding warrants related to a parole violation.
As deputies moved in on Fox and his vehicle, authorities said he fled on foot. Deputies temporarily lost sight of him and established a perimeter while deploying drones to assist in the search. Several deputies and K9 Juice, handled by Sgt. Sheets, joined the effort and helped contain the area.
Investigators said K9 Juice ultimately located Fox hiding while submerged in a nearby creek. Deputies took him into custody without further incident.
Following the arrest, deputies obtained a search warrant for the vehicle associated with Fox. During the search, investigators reportedly discovered three firearms, including two that had been reported stolen in neighboring counties. Deputies also seized multiple knives, ammunition of various calibers, suspected fentanyl, suspected LSD, and drug paraphernalia.
Fox suffered minor injuries to his upper torso from a bite by K9 Juice and was treated at the scene by Sweet Home medics. He was later transported to the Linn County Jail.
Fox was booked on an outstanding parole violation warrant and faces additional charges including felon in possession of a firearm, third-degree escape, unlawful possession of fentanyl, and unlawful possession of LSD.
Sheriff Duncan praised the efforts of K9 Juice and Sgt. Sheets, noting that sheriff’s K9 teams undergo extensive training throughout the year to prepare for real-world situations. She added that the department considers its K9s members of the sheriff’s office family and credited Juice and his handler for helping keep the community safe.
