SALEM, Ore. — Oregonians who are passionate about improving the lives of older adults are encouraged to apply for open positions on the Governor’s Commission on Senior Services (GCSS), a statewide advisory body focused on promoting independence, dignity and quality of life for aging residents.
The commission plays a key role in advising state leaders on issues affecting older adults and helping ensure access to services that support choice and self-sufficiency. Members are also participating in the development of Oregon’s Multi-Sector Plan for Aging, a statewide initiative designed to strengthen support systems for residents at every stage of life.
The Governor appoints commission members to three-year terms, with members eligible to serve up to two consecutive terms.
While adults of all ages are welcome to apply, state law requires that most commission members be age 60 or older. The commission seeks a diverse membership that includes representatives from public and private organizations serving older adults, advocates for seniors, members of disability and aging advocacy groups, and individuals who receive services through the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS), including people with disabilities.
Officials say the commission provides an opportunity for Oregonians to directly influence policies and programs that affect older residents across the state.
Applicants who meet the commission’s criteria and are interested in serving can submit an application through Workday. Assistance with the application process is available by contacting Adam Hansen at 503-855-8438 or by email at adam.g.hansen@odhs.oregon.gov.
