REDMOND, Ore. — Redmond Fire & Rescue is mourning the loss of Firefighter/Paramedic Michael Kienzle, who died June 7, 2026, after a lengthy battle with a rare form of leukemia.
The department announced Kienzle’s passing Monday, saying he died peacefully surrounded by family and close friends.
Kienzle’s illness began unexpectedly in early 2025 when what initially appeared to be a respiratory condition was diagnosed as T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Despite undergoing intensive treatment over many months, he faced the disease with determination and resilience, according to the department.
“Michael was a dedicated firefighter and a cherished member of our fire family,” Redmond Fire Chief Ryan Herrera said in a statement. “His courage—both on the job and throughout his battle with leukemia—was an inspiration to us all. His legacy of service, compassion, and strength will never be forgotten.”
Kienzle began his fire service career in 2015 as a volunteer firefighter with the Corvallis Fire Department. He joined the department full time in 2019 before becoming a member of Redmond Fire & Rescue in 2024, where colleagues said he quickly earned the respect and admiration of those around him.
Beyond his professional service, Kienzle was known as a devoted husband to his wife, Lisa, and a loving father to their young son, Logan. Friends and coworkers remember him for his generosity, passion for golf and history, and commitment to mentoring young athletes in the community.
Redmond Fire & Rescue extended its condolences to Kienzle’s family, friends, and colleagues, asking the community to keep the Kienzle family in their thoughts during this difficult time.
Information about memorial services and funeral arrangements will be announced as it becomes available.
