MULTNOMAH COUNTY, Ore. — Sixteen years after the disappearance of 7-year-old Kyron Horman, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office announced new developments in the ongoing investigation, including the completion of a major case digitization project and increased staffing dedicated to solving the case.
Kyron was last seen on the morning of June 4, 2010, at Skyline Elementary School in Portland while attending the school’s science fair. Despite one of the largest and most extensive missing child investigations in Oregon history, he has never been found.
The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said it finalized the digitization of the entire case in 2025, converting thousands of pages of reports, photographs, and evidence into digital formats. Investigators can now use modern technology to analyze more than 5,300 written documents and over half a terabyte of investigative data.
Officials said the transition to digital records is expected to provide new opportunities to identify leads and uncover information that may have previously gone unnoticed.
To support those efforts, the sheriff’s office has expanded the number of personnel assigned to the investigation. Detectives continue to work closely with the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the East County Major Crimes Team, and the Portland Police Bureau.
“Sixteen years have passed since Kyron Horman disappeared. His family has lived through birthdays, holidays, and moments that mark the passage of time,” Sheriff Nicole Morrisey O’Donnell said. “I want Kyron’s family and our community to know that he has never been forgotten. Our commitment to Kyron’s case remains as strong today as it was when he was first reported missing. We will keep doing everything we can to provide Kyron’s family the resolution they deserve.”
Multnomah County District Attorney Nathan Vasquez emphasized that investigators continue to actively pursue leads, despite the passage of time.
“Sixteen years is a long time — too long. I think about Kyron often,” Vasquez said. “I want Kyron’s family and the community to know that a lack of news on the case does not mean a lack of progress. We are working on this behind the scenes, following every possible clue. We are as determined today as we were in the days after Kyron disappeared, and my office will not rest until we have answered the question of what happened to Kyron Horman.”
Investigators said they continue to receive hundreds of tips each year, all of which are reviewed for potential follow-up. Search efforts also remain ongoing as authorities work to locate Kyron and provide answers to his family and the community.
Kyron was seven years old when he vanished. He has brown hair, blue eyes, wears glasses, and has a distinctive V-shaped strawberry birthmark on his forehead.
A $50,000 reward remains available for information that helps resolve the case.
