JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. — A 39-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly leading deputies on a high-speed pursuit through the Merlin area while intoxicated and in possession of a loaded shotgun, according to the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident began shortly after midnight on May 24, when deputies observed a tan GMC Suburban traveling westbound on Merlin Road at speeds estimated near 100 mph.
Deputies attempted a traffic stop by activating emergency lights and sirens, but the driver accelerated and allegedly attempted to elude law enforcement. Authorities said the vehicle turned onto Merlin Avenue, failed to stop at a stop sign, and continued onto Pleasant Valley Road, where deputies initiated a pursuit.
According to investigators, the vehicle continued northbound on Pleasant Valley Road at lower speeds before eventually pulling over in the 1100 block of the roadway.
Deputies conducted a felony stop and took the driver, identified as 39-year-old Job Christopher McGhee, into custody without incident.
During the investigation, deputies reportedly discovered a loaded semi-automatic shotgun in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. Authorities also determined McGhee was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
McGhee was transported to the Josephine County Jail and lodged on charges including felony attempt to elude police, driving under the influence of intoxicants, and driving while suspended.
