BEND, Ore. — Two homes were heavily damaged in a late-night fire Thursday in northeast Bend that also spread into nearby brush and trees, prompting a large emergency response and a second alarm call.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. on May 21, 2026, multiple 911 callers reported a structure fire near Boyd Acres Road in northeast Bend. When the first fire crews arrived, they found two residences heavily involved in flames, with the fire extending into surrounding vegetation.
Fire officials said a second alarm was requested as crews worked to contain the blaze. Firefighters were able to stop the fire’s progression within about 45 minutes.
Assistance at the scene came from several neighboring agencies, including Redmond Fire & Rescue, Cloverdale Fire and Sunriver Fire.
Both homes were left uninhabitable, with one residence declared a total loss. The American Red Cross was requested to assist displaced residents. Officials estimate the total losses exceed $1 million.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Although crews quickly stopped the fire from spreading further into adjacent brush and trees, fire officials said the incident serves as a reminder that wildfire risks exist even within city limits.
Officials encouraged homeowners to take preventive measures, including clearing combustible materials within five feet of structures and using non-combustible ground cover around homes to reduce wildfire danger. More information about wildfire mitigation and defensible space is available through the City of Bend’s “Own Your Zone” program.
