SALEM, Ore. — The Bureau of Land Management is searching for its next Artist-in-Residence at Oregon’s scenic Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area, offering creatives a chance to showcase the beauty and stories of the Oregon coast during a landmark year for the nation and the agency.
The 2026 residency coincides with the United States’ 250th anniversary and the BLM’s 80th birthday, giving selected artists an opportunity to help commemorate both milestones through their work.
“We welcome any applicants who want to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of Yaquina Head,” said Ricardo Escobar, manager of Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area. “Creativity and art provide an engaging opportunity to share the value of public lands and their connection to local communities and beyond.”
The residency is scheduled for Sept. 11–27, 2026, and will provide artists with time to explore and create while immersed in the coastal landscape. Applicants will be evaluated based on the strength of their portfolio, resume, proposed community event, and overall artistic vision.
Located in Newport, about two-and-a-half hours southwest of Portland, Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area features dramatic ocean cliffs, tide pools, sweeping coastal views, and abundant wildlife across its 100-acre landscape.
BLM officials said the setting provides a unique environment for artists seeking inspiration from Oregon’s rugged coastline and rich cultural heritage.
Applications are open through June 14. More information and application details are available on the Yaquina Head Artist-in-Residence webpage. Additional information can be obtained by contacting Sabrina Gorney at srgorney@blm.gov.
