Firefighters responded to a structure fire involving an abandoned residence on Arthur Street earlier today, according to officials with Klamath County Fire District No. 1.
Crews with KCFD1 were dispatched to the 1700 block of Arthur Street after reports of a fire at a vacant home. A total of four fire engines, two ambulances, one Battalion Chief, and one Duty Officer responded to the scene. Assistance was also provided by the Klamath Falls Police Department and the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office.
When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the abandoned structure. Initial observations indicate the fire may have started on the covered porch before spreading into the attic, causing extensive damage throughout the building.
Fire crews launched an aggressive interior attack and quickly located the seat of the fire, preventing flames from spreading to nearby homes and properties. Officials said coordinated operations and rapid response efforts helped bring the fire under control despite difficult conditions inside the vacant residence.
No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Fire officials also thanked eyewitnesses who quickly called 911 after spotting the fire, helping crews respond before the blaze could spread further.
KCFD1 reminded residents that abandoned buildings can pose serious safety hazards and encouraged the public to report suspicious activity around vacant properties.
