LANE COUNTY, Ore. — A 62-year-old Eugene man died Saturday afternoon following a single-vehicle crash at the Interstate 5 and Highway 58 interchange, according to the Oregon State Police.
Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 3:55 p.m. on May 9. Preliminary findings indicate a southbound Ford Explorer, driven by Richard Delbert Hemminger of Eugene, merged onto the Highway 58 off-ramp before leaving the eastbound shoulder of the roadway for unknown reasons.
Investigators said the SUV rolled multiple times, ejecting Hemminger from the vehicle. Authorities believe he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Hemminger was pronounced dead at the scene.
The highway was impacted for about two hours while investigators processed the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Oregon State Police were assisted at the scene by the Oregon Department of Transportation.
