BEND, Ore. — Firefighters responded to a reported garage fire early Sunday morning in northwest Bend that caused extensive damage to one townhome and impacted a neighboring unit.
According to officials, crews were dispatched at 7:41 a.m. on May 10, 2026, to a fire on Northwest Crossing Drive. First arriving units found an active fire in an attached garage that had spread into the residence.
The affected home is part of a five-unit attached townhome complex. Fire officials said one neighboring unit sustained minor smoke and soot damage, but four of the five townhomes remain habitable.
The residence where the fire originated suffered heavy damage and has been deemed uninhabitable. The homeowner declined assistance from the American Red Cross.
Damage estimates include approximately $500,000 to the structure, $75,000 in contents, and $8,000 to a vehicle parked in front of the garage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Officials are also reminding residents that while wildfire concerns are increasing across Central Oregon, house fires remain a year-round risk. Fire crews encourage homeowners to ensure smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are functioning properly, practice a home fire escape plan, and remain cautious with heating equipment, cooking appliances, and electrical use.
