VANCOUVER, Wash. — Detectives with the Vancouver Police Department Children’s Justice Center are investigating allegations of child sexual abuse involving a longtime Vancouver foster parent who cared for dozens of children over more than a decade.
The investigation began on April 27, 2026, after detectives received a report of a sexual assault involving a child.
On May 1, Vancouver Police executed a search warrant at the residence of 64-year-old Darold A. Slack. During the investigation, detectives learned Slack had served as a foster parent for approximately 55 children in Vancouver between 2013 and 2025.
Slack was arrested and booked into the Clark County Jail on multiple charges, including five counts of second-degree child molestation, three counts of second-degree rape of a child, one count of third-degree rape, two counts of fourth-degree assault, two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, and one count of communication with a minor for immoral purposes.
Investigators believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.
Anyone with information related to possible abuse involving Slack who has not already spoken with police is asked to contact Vancouver Police Department Children’s Justice Center Detective Cpl. Gunnar Skollingsberg at gunnar.skollingsberg@cityofvancouver.us.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing and no additional information is being released at this time.
