SALEM, Ore. — The Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs will host Oregon’s annual Statewide Memorial Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 25, with an in-person gathering near the Oregon State Capitol.
The ceremony will take place at the Capitol State Park, directly across from the Capitol’s main entrance at 900 Court Street NE. This year’s event has been temporarily relocated due to construction near its traditional site at the World War II Memorial on the Capitol grounds.
The annual observance honors Oregon’s fallen service members from all eras of military service. The program will include remarks from dignitaries and special guests, as well as ceremonial traditions such as a color guard presentation, the singing of the national anthem, a wreath-laying ceremony, and the playing of “Taps.”
The event is open to the public, with uncovered seating available. Organizers say accessible pathways and seating areas will be provided for those needing accommodations. Attendees are encouraged to plan ahead for weather conditions.
For those unable to attend in person, the ceremony will be livestreamed on ODVA’s Facebook page.
In addition to the Capitol ceremony, ODVA maintains a statewide Memorial Day events calendar featuring local observances and community tributes honoring fallen service members. Communities and organizations are encouraged to submit their events for inclusion online.
Established in 1945, the Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs serves the state’s veteran population by administering programs, providing advocacy, and helping veterans access earned benefits across Oregon.
