PORTLAND, Ore. — The King Farmers Market opens its 18th season this Sunday, May 3, bringing a wide selection of fresh, locally grown food and artisan products back to Northeast Portland.
Opening day will feature 34 regional farmers and food producers, offering early-season favorites such as asparagus, strawberries, rhubarb, artichokes, snap peas, and tulips. Organizers say the market typically hosts around 35 vendors each week, showcasing a range of products including fresh produce, flowers, meats, seafood, eggs, baked goods, hot meals, and specialty foods.
The weekly market will run Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Nov. 22 in the parking lot of Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School, located at Northeast 7th Avenue and Northeast Wygant Street.
Shoppers can pay with cash, credit or debit cards, and SNAP/Oregon Trail EBT benefits. Those using SNAP can also take advantage of matching programs, receiving up to $20 per day in Double Up Food Bucks and Produce Match to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. The Suma program will return this season, providing additional financial support to SNAP participants.
The market is managed by Portland Farmers Market, a nonprofit organization that operates five farmers markets across the city and supports emerging farms and food businesses.
Established in 2009 with support from the Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods, the King Farmers Market has grown into a staple community event, drawing neighborhood residents and visitors alike each week throughout the season.
