BEAVERTON, Ore. — Officers with the Beaverton Police Department responded to a welfare check on April 17, 2026, at the Arbor Creek Apartments after a passerby reported being urgently approached by a young child seeking help.

According to police, the caller told dispatch that a 4-year-old girl, later identified as Nova Hallett, ran up to her waving for assistance and said her grandmother had fallen. The child was unable to provide a specific apartment number, prompting officers to respond with urgency.

When officers arrived on scene, they quickly located Nova, who then led them directly to her apartment. Investigators said the apartment door was unlocked, allowing officers to enter without delay and assess the situation inside.

Once inside, officers discovered Nova’s grandmother experiencing a medical emergency. She was described as confused and disoriented, consistent with the severity of her condition. Officers immediately requested medical assistance, and the woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Nova’s mother, Hayley Rose, was notified and left work to respond to the apartment. Upon arrival, she learned of her daughter’s actions and the role she played in getting help during the emergency.

Police officials said responding officers were struck by the child’s composure during a frightening and high-stress situation.

“Nova demonstrated an incredible level of bravery and awareness, especially for someone so young,” said Public Information Officer Matt Henderson of the Beaverton Police Department. “Her ability to recognize an emergency, seek help, and guide first responders to her grandmother undoubtedly made a difference in the outcome.”

Authorities confirmed that Nova’s grandmother has since been discharged from the hospital and has returned home to recover.

In recognition of her actions, the Beaverton Police Department plans to nominate Nova Hallett for a community life-saving award.
