FALL CREEK, Ore. (April 27, 2026) – A man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a motorcyclist seriously injured earlier this month in rural Lane County.
According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and fire personnel responded just before midnight on April 5 to a reported crash at the intersection of Jasper Lowell Road and Pengra Road. Investigators determined a motorcycle rider had been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.
The injured rider was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
At the scene, deputies recovered debris from the suspect vehicle, allowing them to identify its make and model. Authorities began searching the area for a possible match.
On April 26, deputies located a vehicle matching that description at a residence in the 39000 block of Jasper Lowell Road near Fall Creek. The vehicle was partially concealed under a tarp. Following further investigation, officials confirmed the vehicle had been involved in the crash.
Deputies identified the driver as 60-year-old John Thomas Klinchok of Fall Creek. He was arrested and lodged at the Lane County Jail on charges of first-degree assault, failure to perform the duties of a driver to injured persons, and felony driving while suspended.
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office credited community members for their assistance in the investigation.
